How or where can I collect my tickets?
Pre-booked tickets are emailed or you can collect your tickets on arrival using your booking reference number.
What is the significance of the Crumlin Road Gaol?
Crumlin Road Gaol opened in 1845 and it is a perfect example of how a Victorian prison evolved through history until it closed its doors in 1996. During its time in service 17 people were executed, numerous escapes were undertaken and many infamous inmates were detained in it. Following a complete refurbishment it is now opened as one of the most intriguing attractions for visitors to Belfast.
Who is the Crumlin Road Gaol suitable for?
Whilst people with an interest in life in Belfast during the Victorian period will find the Gaol particularly fascinating, it is such a unique attraction that it appeals to groups of all types. The Crumlin Road Gaol has a strong appeal to educational groups of all levels and at various places can be linked to periods in our intriguing history.
How long does a tour last?
It is recommended that approximately 60 minutes should be allowed to fully enjoy  the Crumlin Road Gaol Experience.
When is the best time to visit the Crumlin Road Gaol?
The early morning period is very often the best time to visit the Crumlin Road Gaol as evenings tend to be busy.
What is the visiting procedure for the Crumlin Road Gaol?
The main entrance to the Gaol is via the Gate House on the Crumlin Road. Coaches and cars may enter the site via the Summer Street entrance and follow the appropriate traffic management signs. Admission tickets can be purchased on the day but we advise pre-booking to avoid disappointment. We recommend that you arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes prior to the time you have booked, to enable tickets to be checked or to be purchased. The Gaol Experience will allow you to explore the prison at your leisure. The Experience will cover all aspects of the Gaol from the Tunnel linking the courthouse on the other side of the Crumlin Road to the Hanging Cell while also taking in the Historic Holding Cells, Centre Circle, C-Wing, Hospital and Graveyard on the way.
Is there on-site free parking available?
We have free coach and car parking available on site. Follow the traffic management system when you enter the Gaol via the Summer Street entrance.
Is pre-booking essential for group visits?
Because of the unique nature of the Gaol advance reservations are strongly recommended for groups of 8 or more visitors. Discounted admission rates are also available for groups of 15+, must pre-book.
What should I wear to visit?
We advise people to wear warm waterproof clothing for their visit. Although most of the experience is indoors there are areas between buildings and when exploring the Hospital and Graveyard where you will be subject the elements. In all other areas of the Gaol you are indoors but warm clothing is recommended as places like the Gaol Wing and Tunnel areas can be cold. Visitors should consult www.metoffice.gov.uk for their visit date.

Is Crumlin Road Gaol wheelchair friendly?
The only area of the Gaol not wheelchair accessible is the Tunnel, all other areas are accessible with lift or ramp access. The facilities are designed to be accessible to guests with disabilities including: Disabled car park Disabled toilets Provision of seating at various points throughout the Gaol Wheelchairs available for visitors to borrow if booked in advance (£10 Deposit).
Are guide dogs permitted in the Crumlin Road Gaol?
Guide dogs allowed in the Gaol. Please note that ONLY guide dogs are permitted. No other dogs are permitted for any reason.
How can I get to the Crumlin Road Gaol by public transport?
You can use the Translink Metro Services 57 and 12B Monday – Saturday and there is a stop outside the Gaol. On Sundays we suggest you use the 12A service and get off at Carlisle Circus, a short walk from the Gaol.
Is Crumlin Road Gaol implementing social distancing?
Yes, the “Crumlin Road Gaol Experience” is a self-guided virtual tour; as such you are free to explore the site at your leisure, while observing social distancing. We have also added signing and floor markings to assist with this.
Do you allow pets?
No, only guide dogs. Correct documentation is needed.
