Crumlin Road Gaol, Belfast Infamous Prison was in operation for 150 years, opening its doors in 1846, bearing witness to Births, Deaths, Marriages, hunger strikes, executions, riots and more.

This unique building designed by renowned architect and civil engineer Sir Charles Lanyon, closed its door for the final time as a working prison on 31st March 1996.

As we approach the 28th Anniversary of the Gaols closure, the regeneration project is on going with new exhibits and improvements being introduced, these include Holograms throughout the site and Audio Guides in various languages, along with our award-winning Sign Language video guides.

After an extensive regeneration project, the Gaol re-opened as a visitor and conference centre in December 2012 and has become one of Belfast’s most popular tourist attractions.
